-20c , and for 5 min, a lot of white smoke

$

I started the Tracker this morning, temperature was about -15c(-22c with windshield)... for about 5-10 min there were a lot of white smoke coming from the muffler.... and the engine was kind of rough. I let the engine run idle for about 15 minutes and I went for a ride. everything was fine.... It`s the first day that it`s this cold since I run it daily.... btw, days like today most cars have some white smoke non-stop....

I know that when it`s cold, condensation will bring white smoke when starting the engine and this can last some minutes.....

I have to say that I didn`t adjust the TPS yet. don`t know if it could be this but I will adjust it shortly...

Also I know I`ve got to weld a little area in my pipe cause I can hear it(don`t know if this can made more condensation)....

So if it is the TPS that was causing the rough idle when cold then I don`t think it would be related to that white smoke.... so was wondering about coolant.... could coolant in the pistons could make the engine run rough when cold ?

I`ll let my Tracker sit for at least two hours and then I`ll go back to start it.....

Rattle Can Paint

hello,
I have a few scratches on the fenders that can be touched up with a spray can paint, but I cannot find the original color. Is there another car color that is the same or comes close to the silver color on my 2004 Grand vitara lease?
The local parts store does not list paints for the Suzuki.
thank you
alex

99 Tracker info needed...

Rough idle on electrical load; sort of?!

$

So I have a 1999 Chevy Tracker; bought it as a toy and am having a lot of fun. The problem is it has a rough idle when stopped at a light; definitely more than it should have. Otherwise, it runs pretty nicely!

I noticed something last night. If the car is in drive, but I don't have the brakes applied, the car rides smoother. If I apply the brakes or turn on the turn signals, something electrical that is not the AC or headlights, it starts running rough. The idle still seems to be in the range it's suppose to be, but it runs rough. However, if I put on the AC or turn on the headlights, it does kick up the idle and the car runs smooth; so it appears the IAC valve is working?!

I guess I'm wondering if it's possible that the alternator is causing the problem? The lights do sometimes flicker (bad regulator), so it needs to be replaced anyways, but other than that the alternator is putting out 14 volts while running and the battery is holding 12.5volts when the car is off. The 14 volts is solid whether the lights, brakes, etc are applied. It only drops to 13 when the AC is on; ironically when the car runs smooth.

Could it be that the old alternator is putting more strain than usual on the motor when there is a non headlight or AC electric draw? It appears that AC and headlights are the only things that are suppose to cause a kickup in idle, so I'm wondering if the old alternator is having to work extra hard to keep the voltage at 14 when there are other electrical draws! Stupid?!

Just for info purposes: the motor mounts look good; no external damage/wear. I cleaned the throttle body and IAC valve and, given that turning on the AC kicks up the idle, it appears to be working. I've read other post here, have used Torque app to check running values and everything seems to be good?!

My TPS light will not turn off even if all tires are at the correct air pressure. How do I reset the light from inside the cabin, tried disconnecting the battery, left unconnected for more than 10 min. but doesn't do the trick. Any help will be appreciated.

Idle issues

Hi everyone, i have a tbi 1.6 16v auto 4x4 tracker. New spark plug wires, plugs, pcv valve, air filter. Rough idle when in very cold days in chicago. I just noticed it has a drip from top radiator hose. Not sure how much fluid is left. Will check tomorrow. But none the less theres major issues with idle. occasionally when started the rpm's will run 1100 and will jump to 1400 when i put it in gear until it warms. Other wise other times it will just run roughly at 800 rpms when cold. The egr has oil and soot in it and is pretty apparent. Will disassemble egr valve and clean it out. I will also test the other egr system components. Any other ideas???
Theres one more problem, occasionally im hearing what sounds like a vacuum leak? Happened around the same time the high idle started. It is peculiar, sounds like it could be an exhaust lead because of its intermittent pulses. I do know it is not the exhaust tho. It is brand new and firmly tight. Could this be a blown gasket or something? the noise was heard when i was in walgreens and stopped by the time i got home. Coincidently it does not affect the performance of the car. Since then it has happened a couple times and never stays for too long
please help.
Even with these problems, the car has no performance issues once warm. No dips, or hesitations. Cept a nasty smell from the exhaust. It is in need of an emissions tune up i suppose. No codes thrown tho.

hi all, hey just noticed our little swift has picked up a bit of clutch shudder when cold but returns to normal after a couple gear changes, has anyone else experienced this? car has 40k on it and just outta warranty (of course! lol), clutch isn't slipping at all and will stall out in gear with handbrake on, nor can I see any evidence of oil contamination (oil dripping from bellhousing), cheers dan

Firing order

happy new year everyone !!

What is the firing order of a 96 sidekick'? Is it 1342 or 1243 ?? Seems to run better at 1243 but has a rough idle in it. It runs bad at 1342 so i reckon it 1243.

Kindly confirm

Thanks

2002 XL7 2.7 help to identify part

Hi,

I had a small coolant leak coming from the thick hose going into the thermostat. A ring appeared to be sticking out. The hose is made of metal and goes into the thermostat housing.

I took off the housing and detached and have the small ring (warped) in hand. I am looking for a replacement but found a few descriptions of the ring.

What is this ring called?

Is it the Engine Coolant Outlet Gasket? or the Engine Coolant Pipe O-Ring?

I found them here. 2002 Suzuki XL-7 Replacement Cooling Parts at CARiD.com

But my old eyes can't tell what's what :)

Appreciate the help!

Hello all....just wanted to know if anyone out there has ever had ABS problems....well here is my delema. My 1999 GV with 2.5 auto has 173,000 KMS on it and all the fluids have been changed and a full tune up has been done.It is everytime I start the vehicle up and begin to drive......the ABS cycles for about 2 seconds and then stops....the light in the dash does not come on....just before this problem has occurred I had done a CV boot replacement on both front outters.I also did notice that the front brake pads have about 20% life left......could the wear of the brake pads be the problem or the lifting of the vehicle and spinning of the rotors while I was working on the CV boot be the cause.?? in any case please help.

idle rpm 2000 or more

Dear friends, this is my first post and i hope to receive the correct information from you.
I have suzuki vitara 1.6 G16B 1998 4doors from 2 years. Immediately after i bought it i installed lpg injection system. The fuel consumption was 13/100 in the city (lpg) and 10/100 outside.
The only problem is that the vitara is my third car in the garage so i do not have enough time to spend and enough km to drive it.
Last two months i noticed that the RPM on cold start are 1500 and after the engine become normal temperature - they are still 1500. From two days ago the RPM on cold start are + 2000, and this problem become very annoying. Even that the engine is in normal mode - the RPM on idle engine are +2000...
I checked the light codes and i have only one error: 24 (Vehicle Speed Sensor). the speed sensor is working quite good, even that this error exist.
until now i have checked and cleaned the throttle body, isc, tps sensor. i did not find any problems there.
I still did not check all vacuums.
Please reply what do you think that the problem is?

Best regards,
Evgeni

Happy New Years!! - Brake Issues

Happy New Years everyone

Hope all is well with you all, I'm on vacation visiting family in cold Canada so my car is not with me at this time. But I have lots to do on it when I get back next week.

Two major problem right now are my brakes and what I believe may be a starter issue.

My brakes give off this screeching sound after I've driven for a bit, mostly when I'm going down hills and i live in a very hilly area. What do you guys think the problem may be?
New pads maybe?

Second, my car is not starting as it should. I'm hoping all it is, is that I need a new battery, which I do have though it may not fit since I bought it initially for my old '91 Honda Accord but could it be a problem with my starter, ignition or so forth?

Two other things I need to get on when I get back home is looking into buying some rugged tires for the rough roads I live on (I'll take any suggestions) and also tying up my bumper cause it the right side took a hit and now I'm holding it together with duct tape.

Thank you for any help you guys can offer. Please and thank you :)

Uneven throttle control.

This may seem somewhat disjointed, but it is hard to explain. My Tracker runs excellent, but when I just want to creep along in low gear it will not just put along. It is either jumping ahead or slowing down. If it's pulling, like in climbing a hill, its fine. If it is going down hill against compression, its fine. In between it is not comfortable at all. I've checked the motor mounts and throttle linkage and could find nothing amiss. What more can I do? Mac

Brake warning light indicator on when outside temp is below freezing 2004 xl7

$

*disregard* the fluid was about an 1/8" above min line so I filled to max line and the light went off. I guess with cold it contacts the fluid.

I have a 2004 xl7 2.7l EX 106k miles. When the temperatures outside drops below freezing my brake warning light illuminates. My brake fluid is full and I have 50%+ life left on the brake pads and shoes. The light eventually goes off when the vehicle has been at normal operating temp for a while or if the outside temperature rises. I have tried parking with or without the emergency brake and it doesn't change the issue. It didn't do this last winter and the only thing that has changed is I had my brakes bled by Goodyear this summer and I had a low impact accident to the front passenger fender. I live in a normally rainy climate so I am thinking maybe condensation is occurring and freezing. I can't seem to find much information or a wiring diagram for the brake system, such as a brake switch location.

2WD front bearing parts list?

$

'96 tracker 2WD

My list is:
2x timken 517009 (1 L bearing, 1 R bearing)
2x 710239 Front Outer (1 L & 1 R outer seal)
2X TIMKEN Part # 710240 (1 L & 1 R inner seal)
end of list

I am confused by the 4X4 and/or 2WD pics/posts.

Is there 4 seals per side for 2WD, or just 2 seals per side (1 inner and 1 outer)?

ALSO, need to buy a used J-37760 tool (if I'm correct that this is the correct 2WD part number... btw hint at getting back some of your money now that you are done with the J-37760 tool. You can send me a paypal invoice for quick easy payment)

Thanks!
