Starter Motor problem?

$

2008 SX4 JLX AWD, 185,000 kms: Car was in outdoor airport car park for two weeks (Saint John NB, some heavy rain for several days and back and forth between freezing and milder temperatures). Original battery. Car doesn't start and battery drains very quickly. Battery has been tested and is good (lots of cranking amps >400). Starter motor doesn't turn over strongly and ground/negative battery cable gets warm when cranking and quickly drains the battery. I'm guessing sticking brushes in starter motor but wondering if anyone else has experienced and diagnosed similar problems (new spark plugs and compression is good)?
Thanks for any input :)

smooth but slow idle

My 92 tracker 8v failed the smog test. There are about 30,000km on the rebuilt engine (295k total). As it may have been the original; I changed the O2 sensor and checked plugs, timing and dist. Runs smooth, Without jumper and warmed up completely it idles at 500- 600 rpm. Not really a problem in itself but when that idle is that slow and it's warm, the oil light flashes on. Now I have checked the EGR / modulator and adjusted the TPS. Is there anything else to check or do I go about changing the factory idle screw. I did search but all I can find are fast idles.

Manual Driver Door Lock Stuck - Help

So I've had my tracker for a few months now. It's my first car so I'm new to working on cars.
So this morning I tried to unlock my car, but my key won't even go in the door lock. The key only goes in maybe a third of an inch. It feels like something is blocking it, but I can't see in there to look. I had trouble with the passenger side too, but I eventually got that one open (it already had issues I have addressed so it's fragile).
I got in the car and tried to pull up the driver door lock but it won't budge. I even tried using some pliers and pulling on it, gently but firmly. Nothing.
I'm very frustrated.
Has anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions for me? I thought about spraying it with some lubricant or something but I wasn't sure. Usually my brother helps me with my car but he's at school.

2002 2.0 tdi Grand Vitara rhz engine wont start - HELP!

Hi all. I left home and about a mile into my journey the vehicle lights dimmed and then everything shut down with smoke billowing out of the engine bay. It was an electrical smell. I removed the battery which was showing signs of leaking and found the cable loom welded to the inner wing. I stripped off the insulation and reconnected and re insulated all the wires that were effected. I reinstated the battery and tried to start the vehicle. The engine turned over and I could hear the primary fuel pump working but it would not start. maybe I missed a wire, I was working with a headtorch in the pitch dark in the middle of nowhere!

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem and give me advice on what else I can check.

Thank you Tim J

Reset Mileage Consumption Readout

I have a 2009 SX4 4x4 which has now done in vicinity of 150k kms. A few months back I had my battery replaced by a roadside motoring organisation. There has been no real problems other than since the battery was replaced the digital readout of the mileage/economy display has 'reversed'. By that I mean when I accelerate the digits decrease, when I coast/take foot off gas pedal digits increase. :(

How do I correct this? I presume there must be some form of reset required, but not sure how. It would be handy again to have this read out, it helps me prove I am more economic driver than my wife!!?? ;)

Thanks in advance,

Weak brakes

My 2009 3.2l GV is having a issue with its brakes. In the morning when she starts, the brakes are low and I need to give the brake pedal a pump or 2 to get the brakes to work nicely. We went on a trip where I had to leave her to stand for about a week and when starting her up after this period the brakes were not working until I pumped it again and then they worked fine.

Once they have been pumped they work fine until the next morning when after the car has stood still in my garage, I have to repeat everything.

I have checked fluid level and that is fine, I had the system flushed at the Suzuki dealership (after this there was an improvement) but I still get weak brakes after the car stood for a while.

Any ideas on what might cause this and how to fix it? I think there might still be air somewhere in the system but I have bled the brakes and no air came out so it might be before the abs pump. I have no idea where to find this problem :o

93 1.6 Vitara JX Estate offroad or power modification help

Gday Everyone,

I have a 1993 1.6 Vitara JX Estate with manual transmission. It's pretty much standard but i have put on 215/75 R15 BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres. I also service it regularly. I took it off-road the other weekend for some beach and sand dune fun and it went ok but i did get bogged on a couple of occasions in very soft sand. Im sure it had something to do with the driver but it also felt like i just didn't have the power to get through the soft stuff. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any modifications which may increase the power output or off-roading capabilities.

Thanks for your help :)

Hi,
22 years ago we sold our Suzuki sierra. I have just bought it again .I'm dreaming of restore it to the original standard car, but alot of things have been changed in all those years. Is it possible to get a book or manual that shows the original parts and design ( like steering, seats , stickers etc...) ?
Thanks

Transmision Issues

Hi all , I have a GV 2002 J20A . On several occasions to put the car in reverse long it took , to the point of waiting almost two minutes ! In reading several post proceeded to change the transmission filter and improved a lot ;) but after a few weeks when this cold by placing the reverse takes about 10 seconds  .

I wonder if these are symptoms of a damaged transmission ?????

Wheel bearing washer

Anyone know the dimensions of this washer (the one that goes between the bearing and locknut), and if it's possible to source this somewhere other than Suzuki? I see that Suzuki still has them in stock - for about $2.00. I have nowhere that I know of to source this here, and as a last resort will order from Suzuki, if I have no other option.
By the way - a lesson learned here....Attempting to 'delegate', I had a mechanic with a good rep over here replace my wheel bearings about a year ago - I gave him all the torques, the FSM, the (aftermarket) Kent Moore tool that I have. Within about 5,000 miles, play has returned in both wheels. I bit the bullet, and tore down each side to see what was going on. On one side, sheared bolts, missing screws and the locknut spinning about so much that I was able to unscrew it by hand. On the other side, aside from the prerequisite stripped screws, there was no washer, and the locknut was wearing against the bearing. It was obvious he never really tried to use the locknut socket, either. I torqued all (with the help of a neighbor, as there is no way I can torque to 210Nm) - the play and growling disappeared, but I have ordered new bearings and will replace them myself. Also, that aftermarket Kent Moore tool, that needs a socket in order to attach to your wrench is truly a PIA. In any event, I need to replace the washer, when I replace the hubs. Any dims or help appreciated!!

1990 Tracker LSi w/ 1992 1.6 8v engine

I was driving home from the store and everything was good until my truck suddenly died. I coasted to the side of the road and was eventually towed home.
During my lengthy search for answers, I came across quite a few of the exact same symptoms, but, after seeing the solution, I am wondering if mine may be something different. Here's the info:
Engine cranks, but will not start.
It will start with starting fluid but dies when the fluid burns up.
No power to the injector.

Here's what I tried/checked:
*I tried I known-working ECM - it is a rebuild and it was tested on my truck after the engine swap last month and confirmed to be good. It was then unplugged and put on a shelf until I tried it again today.
*I removed my fuel pump/injector relay set and put it in another tracker. It fired right up.
*I found the fuel pump to be working normal.
*I confirmed fuel is getting to the injector.
*I put a test light on the red injector wire and found there was no light when cranking. (I tried the same thing on the other tracker and confirmed the test light is supposed to strobe when cranking.)
*I examined both ECMs and found no burn spots or leaking capacitors.
*I replaced the injector with a known-working one.

Other solutions I have found in my search were related to a bad ECM. I can believe mine went bad, but the other one is known to be a good refurb and is known to have started my truck several weeks ago.
Is there another fuse or relay or something else that I am missing/forgetting to check?

Cherry red exhaust manifold (pic)

So I heard some popping I hadn't heard before, almost like an exhaust leak or something. Opened the hood and was presented with what you see in the picture below.
Bright, glowing, cherry red exhaust manifold... Luckily the heat shield is on it.

I'm not sure what is causing it. My first guess would be some sort of clog in the exhaust (muffler/cat) but it seems to be flowing really well. Not sure what else would cause this...

If you own the Diesel GV you HAVE to read this!!

(Past info FYI, took off quickly from traffic lights 2 days ago, got up to about 4000rpm max, heard Loud muffled Bang! Then engine became very loud & Very rattly. Had to get it towed to the dealer)

Holy shit balls... I heard back from the dealer I found out why my Suzuki Grand Vitara when it went BANG & became very Rattley & sounded like catastrophic damage just from taking off at the traffic lights the other day.

& the answer is because there is a huge design flaw in the timing belt cover!
Suzuki won't admit to this yet & is asking me to pay for the damage. Warranty is not covering it yet.

The good news is there is no damage to the engine & timing gears, cams valves or piston.
The rattle was because the Cam gear jumped 2 teeth on the timing belt! & Was SO CLOSE to receiving catastrophic damage! So very very lucky!

So what exactly happened was, the muffled bang we heard taking off from the traffic lights was the main engine accessories drive (serpentine) belt letting go. Not completely snapped, half the thickness delaminated/snapped & got tangled around things, thrashing around the front of the engine pulleys.
This is not uncommon & should not cause any damage. All that's needed is a new belt. It's just the same as the fan belt coming off any car. Not the end of the world.
But what happened instantly when the belt snapped is why I'm going to sell my GV because it makes the engine hugely unreliable & susceptible to catastrophic damage just from the accessories drive belt breaking...
Now usually on other good engines the Cam timing gears & belt are sealed away safe behind an aluminum cover & no outside influences, dirt, dust or rocks can affect it. On my engine this is not the case.
The timing belt & cam timing gears are directly above the drive accessories belt.

There is a plastic cover over the timing belt, but it only covers it from the top. The cover is open to the elements at the bottom!
My drive accessories serpentine belt half let go, broken belt flung up & got caught up in the Cam timing belt & made the Cam jump 2 teeth!!
THATS What caused the engine to sound so Rattley & why my cam timing is out now!

HOW INSANE IS THAT!!

Not only does Suzuki say the timing belt has to be changed at 75K, but the belt is not sealed away & when ever the drive accessories belt snaps it tangled up in the timing belt & causes your engine to self destruct!!
This is not the fist time the mechanic has seen it either! The last one he saw do this it destroyed the engine, Suzuki would pay for it & they had to pay for a new engine!
The reason they won't cover it is because they think something has come up from underneath, hit the serpentine belt & caused it to snap. So they won't cover the damage!

But that's impossible for something to come up & hit the belt. I have underbody protection bash plates!
BUT JUST THE FACT THE TIMING BELT CAN BE AFFECTED BY THE SERPENTINE BELT SNAPPING IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!

I'm going to fight this & make them pay for it...
